Beneath the Red River truss bridge between Dension, Texas and Colbert, Oklahoma lies the ruin of a freight car. When the waters began to rise
during the historic 1908 flood, the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad attempted to save the bridge by weighing it down with box cars full of rocks.
The bridge, which was built in 1872 as the MKT crossed Indian Territory into Texas, didn't survive the flood, however, and was swept away, along
with the box cars. You can see one of the cars' remains on the Colbert side of the bridge. This part of the river belongs to an RV Park; just ask
for permission to walk down to the river. There are also some beautiful fossils embedded in the rock nearby.
